There is a tunnel with toll–Vaðlaheiðargöng located outside Akureyri city. If you are planning to travel from Akureyri to Husavik, it could shorten the driving distance and time you spend on the road.
Unlike many toll roads equipped with either staffed or automatic toll booths, Vaðlaheiðargöng tunnel tolls must be paid online at the tunnel’s official website.
The standard cost for a single trip for a passenger vehicle is 1.500 ISK, and you have to pay online within 3 hours of travelling through the tunnel. If you paid after 3 hours, the fee increases to 2.500 ISK. If you forget to pay the toll with a rental car from Hertz, we will charge the authorized credit card with the toll fee and an additional service fee. We strongly advise you to be careful and pay the toll fee after using the tunnel.
Parking in Akureyri
There are two parking zones (i.e. P1 and P2) in the centre of Akureyri. The charging hours are from Monday to Friday, 10:00-16:00 in both parking zones. You can see all the Akureyri parking zones on this map.

You can pay the parking fee with either EasyPark or Parka App.
If you are driving a camper or caravan, PLEASE go to a designated campground and stay overnight INSIDE the camping site. Sleeping in a car, campervan, or a caravan is illegal within town limits.
